Diagrams sometimes help visualise things:

Projection point
Minimising the ratio between the furthest point on the dome from the projector and the nearest such point would help reduce focussing problems.

These problems can be reduced by:

  • Using more projectors;
  • Using custom-designed lenses;
  • Projecting from the best point - the diagram above suggests that this may be about 45° below the base plane;
  • Projecting from further away;
Obviously other design considerations will impose their own restrictions on what's possible here.
